FAQs

Find answers to common questions about the Kiddush Levana practice.

What is Kiddush Levana?

Kiddush Levana is the beautiful Jewish practice of blessing the moon each month. It is a way to greet the new month with intention and connect with the Divine Presence.

What are the benefits?

By regularly practicing this new moon ritual, you can expect to feel more grounded, at peace, and in tune with your soul and your emotions. (Plus, you'll find that you intuitively keep tabs on the moon's phases throughout the month.)

Each month, you'll have this special moment to look forward to — and an anchor that helps you feel connected to the greater rhythms of the generations before you. It's a transformative journey of self-care and spiritual connection.

How can I learn the Kiddush Levana prayer?

The Way of Blessing the Moon includes the full traditional Kiddush Levana blessing, which can be used any month of the year. This historic book also includes 13 new blessings crafted by women and nonbinary poets, each shining a light on the distinctive teachings of a particular Hebrew month.

The words within these pages — both the traditional Kiddush Levana blessing and the newly crafted blessings — offer words to lift your spirits, inspire you, and mark sacred time.

Can I order this if I'm not Jewish?

Yes — the ancient Jewish practice of celebrating the new moon has so much to offer in supporting your well-being! This is true whether you identify as Jewish or not.

Two things to note:

The book The Way of Blessing the Moon: A Modern Kiddush Levana is a sacred object. It includes the printed name of the Divine in Hebrew, which brings a tremendous reverence in Jewish tradition. When you receive your copy, please cherish and protect it. And if you should ever need to part with it, please do so responsibly.

The traditional prayer practice of Kiddush Levana, which we teach in Part One of The Way of Blessing the Moon, is considered to be reserved for the Jewish community specifically. If you aren't Jewish, we encourage you to use all of the newly crafted monthly poems instead, which you'll find in Part Two. We wanted to include the traditional language for Jewish people observing this prayer, as well as for you to see how each of the modern interpretations are inspired from the original text.

The coloring pages, affirmations, teachings, and poetry in Rosh Chodesh: The Coloring Book and in The Way of Blessing the Moon are appropriate for people of any spiritual background. We hope they inspire you to shape a nourishing new moon practice!

When will my book ship?

The first-ever copies of The Way of Blessing the Moon are being created right now! We expect them to begin shipping in mid-June 2024.

About At The Well

At The Well is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit on a mission to enhance women’s well-being through ancient Jewish practices. We have a deep love for Rosh Chodesh, the start of each new Hebrew month, and we use this to ground the rest of our work.

We’ve helped thousands of women and nonbinary folks connect in Well Circles to celebrate Rosh Chodesh and support one another. For years we’ve published our beloved Moon Manuals as a taste of the spiritual energy of each lunar month. Now, through the poetry you’ll find within The Way of Blessing the Moon, we’re inviting you to feel and welcome the essence that each month holds for you.
