What does “joy” really mean?
Understandably, joy may feel especially hard to access right now. And yet, in Jewish wisdom, it is a sacred practice to cultivate joy during this time of the year.

What do we do with this paradox? How can we make space to be joyous? Let's start by redefining what “joy” means.

When you take the quiz, you'll find a definition of joy that's suited to what you personally need most — all grounded in ancient Jewish wisdom.
Let's take joy seriously.
This month, known as Adar, is meant to be vibrant and joyful. Each Hebrew month gives us a chance to grow, and in Adar we do so by leaning into appreciation and delight.

In fact, our Sages say, “When Adar arrives, joy increases” (Talmud Ta’anit 29A). We’re taking that intention seriously — even during such a difficult time. Join us for this journey of simple practices.

“Joy isn't about throwing a dance party even if you feel awful. It’s about boldly tapping into the wellsprings of your heart and experiencing whatever you find there.”

Can we still be joyful now?
We believe that Jewish wisdom was made for moments like this. Our ancestors were well acquainted with struggle, and they have passed down many tools for resilience. Tapping into joy — even when it’s hard — may be one of the most powerful.
Why joy?
When you make space in your life for greater joy, you’re also supporting your heart health, your resilience to stress, and even your immune system, according to the Greater Good Science Center.
Why now?
The Talmud specifically teaches, “When Adar begins we increase in joy” (Taanit 26b). This year it feels especially difficult — and especially vital! — to give ourselves space for joy and delight.
What's next?
Once you take the quiz, you’ll get five weeks of simple joy practices, encouragement, and a few little surprises along the way. We’ll be sharing these delights by email, Feb. 27 – March 29.
“[A]ny feeling fully felt, any immersion in the full depth of life, can be the source of great joy.”
